Stellera chamaejasme Roots as Raw Material for Pulp Production

Cellulosic pulps were prepared from Stellera chamaejasme roots using soda, soda-anthraquinone (soda-AQ), and kraft pulping processes. S. chamaejasme is composed of 73.5% holocellulose, 39.7% α-cellulose, and 17.6% lignin, similar to wheat straw and other non-wood plant materials. The ethanol–benzene extractives content of 9.2% is higher than other non-woods. The conditions used for all pulping ...

Biflavanones, diterpenes, and coumarins from the roots of Stellera chamaejasme L.

A new biflavanone (1) with a C-3/C-3" linkage, a new daphnane-type diterpene (2) acylated by an unsaturated fatty acid, and a new coumarin glycoside (3), along with six lignans, two phenylpropanoids, five flavonoids, two diterpenes, and three coumarins were isolated from the roots of Stellera chamaejasme L. (Thymelaeaceae). Elucidation of these secondary metabolites of S. chamaejasme L. supplie...

A new dicoumarinyl ether from the roots of Stellera chamaejasme L.

A new dicoumarinyl ether, 3-hydroxy-6-methoxy-7,7'-dicoumarinyl ether (1), was isolated from the roots of Stellera chamaejasme L, together with the known compound umbelliferone (2). Their structures were determined on the basis of spectroscopic techniques, including IR, NMR, and HR-ESI-MS.

Glycoside Hydrolase (GH) 45 and 5 Candidate Cellulases in Aphelenchoides besseyi Isolated from Bird’s-Nest Fern

Five Aphelenchoides besseyi isolates collected from bird's-nest ferns or rice possess different parasitic capacities in bird's-nest fern. Two different glycoside hydrolase (GH) 45 genes were identified in the fern isolates, and only one was found in the rice isolates. A Abe GH5-1 gene containing an SCP-like family domain was found only in the fern isolates. Abe GH5-1 gene has five introns sugge...
